MONTREAL — More than 80 pigeons have keeled over and died at a farm near Quebec City for unknown reasons, the latest in a string of mysterious animal deaths around the world.

Mass bird & fish die-off leaves science baffled




Dr Scott Wright of the USGS said that, with the cases in Arkansas, some sort of human activity could have "forced the birds off their night-time roost, which is abnormal for these species". "We know from witness accounts that lots of folks heard very loud noises, repeatedly, noises on the order of something like commercial fireworks," he said. "These same folks saw birds...flying low across the ground and smashing into their homes and cars and mailboxes and so forth." Dr John Fischer, Director of the university's Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study said all the birds seem to have suffered the same fate of "blunt force trauma", caused by flying into large, inanimate objects.

Vlada SAD preuzela je odgovornost za stotine leševa ptica koji su početkom sedmice pronađeni u američkoj državi Sjevernoj Dakoti.
Vlada je otrovala čvorke jer su "svojim izmetom zagađivali hranu drugim životinjama sa obližnjih farmi, zbog čega je postojala opasnost širenja zaraze".


Trovanje su obavili upotrebom mamca sa otrovom DRC-1339, ali začudilo ih je kako su ptice uspjele odletjeti toliko daleko prije nego što su uginule.

Takođe, iz vlade navode da kako uginuli čvorci nisu opasni po zdravlje. Na taj način otjerali su preostale ptice, koje se od straha neće više pojavljivati u dijelu gdje su farme.

Dok se krivac za ovaj slučaj zna, ostaje pitanje što se tačno dogodilo sa kravama u Viskonsinu.

Prema prvim informacijima one su uginule od pneumonije, ali kako su se zarazile niko još ne može kazati sa sigurnošću.

Iako stručnjaci tvrde da ne postoji povezanost uginulih životinja širom svijeta, sumnja svakako ostaje jer su se smrti dogodile praktično u isto vrijeme.

Od Švedske do Brazila pronađene su stotine i hiljade uginulih ptica, rakova, krava i riba.

Dozens of Dead Turtles Washed up in Egypt




An investigation is underway to determine the deaths of dozens of sea turtles that washed up on Egypt’s Mediterranean shore last week. Initial forays prompted suspicion that the turtles had eaten deliberately poisoned fish in Lake Bardawil, but conclusive results have not yet been published.
